Yasmin J. Lee (they/she) is an Afro-surrealist writer-director and interdisciplinary artist exploring vulnerability and humanity through intuitive storytelling. A Wofford College alum, they create emotionally grounded films blending modern folklore with romanticized visuals to address themes like misogynoir, collective trauma, and belonging. In 2019, Yasmin won a Southeast Emmy for a segment on Drag Queens in Columbia, SC. Their early short films sparked academic discussions, and they presented gender studies research in 2023. That same year, they completed Yale's Summer Drama Program. Named Best South Carolina Filmmaker at the 2024 SC Underground Film Festival, Yasmin’s recent work has screened at Tryon International and Reedy Reels. They completed the SC Film Commission’s WIDE Angle program, pitching their feature “Surrounded” to execs including Deniese Davis. Yasmin is currently in post-production for their next short, “Spirits Talk.”
