SEKISUI FFU synthetic sleeper technology

Here you will see moves & pictures from the production, the workability and from projects and the installation of FFU synthetic railway sleeper technology.
It was developed in 1978 and it is in use in Japan since 1980. Since 2004 it is also used in Europe.

FFU will be mainly installed on bridges and switches at any kind of railway substructures (ballasted track, slab track, direct fixation). Until 2015 more than 2.000.000 sleepers have been produced and more than 1.400 km track are running on FFU sleepers.
This on tracks with axel loads up to 45 tonnes and speeds up to 300 km/h.

Based on tests done from RTRI (Railway Technical Research Institute) of Japan on sleepers after 5 years, 10 years, 15 years and 30 years in use the life time of FFU sleepers is proposed with 50 years.
On the end of the life time FFU sleepers will be fully recyclable.
