Seaworthy - restoring a 1962 wooden Wayfarer

Follow the restoration of Eleana, a much loved 1962 wooden Wayfarer in need of a total overhaul. 

As part of writing a book that explores how we might make our own lives more seaworthy, author Wyl Menmuir is restoring a classic wooden boat with the aim of attempting a sea crossing in her in early summer 2026. Wyl is a keen sailor, though has no experience of boatbuilding and if you'd like to support the restoration, there is a live Crowdfunder at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/seaworthy. 

The work is taking place in the workshops of the National Maritime Museum Cornwall between February and May 2026. Follow the boat's progress here or by visiting the museum on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays until May. 

We'll be hosting a grand launch in late May/ early June 2026 and Seaworthy will be published by Picador in February 2028.
