Oral History of Tibetan Studies

Oral History of Tibetan Studies Project, University of Oxford

This project aims to record and preserve the recollections of the pioneers of Tibetan Studies in the West, providing crucial information on the origins and evolution of the filed as an independent discipline. Through interview recordings, it explores two aspects: the development of the discipline itself, and the distinctive life-stories of the individuals involved. We collect oral memories of individuals of various roles and backgrounds who were influential on the rising interest in Tibetan language, culture, and religion in the West, which then contributed to the emergence of Tibetan Studies.
