MSOE “SAE” Aero

The goal of the SAE Aero Design competition is to provide undergraduate engineering students with the multi-disciplinary challenges that graduates can expect to face in a typical work environment. This design challenge is accomplished through extensive research and experimental testing to allow for practical redesign and necessary optimization to create a competition-ready aircraft. The focus of the advanced class competition is to create an 8lbf Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, colloquially known as a drone, that can carry 15lbf of internal cargo, and drop a 3lbf expellable cargo successfully within 50ft of a pre-determined target from at least 100ft in the air. Controlled by a pilot remotely on the ground, the UAV also incorporates the use of a Data Acquisition System to record key flight metrics such as flight speed, altitude, and video from a First Person View system to a satellite ground station in real-time.
