Kinoulton Swift Group

The church tower swifts return from early May then leave between mid-August to mid-September. This video collection captures the life of the colony. The arrival of the first birds to establish possession of their nest box, the first encounter with the returning partner after months apart, establishing the pair bond, fixing the nest. They may lay up to three eggs, that hatch almost together, you will see the feeding, growth and development of the chicks, the feathers slowly forming, the first exercise routines to build strength and the final moment when the swiftlet decided to leap into space and fly up into the sky to join other swifts. Its is a dramatic journey from egg to aerial competence.
