Amok in the Jungle

Amok in the Jungle is a podcast about the history of Kuala Lumpur and British Malaya. It explores how a tin-mining camp deep in the jungles of Selangor emerged as the capital of Malaysia.

Over eight episodes, the first season examines the origins of British rule in Malaya. It follows Chinese miners, Malay Rajas and British civil servants as they fight, conspire and compete for control of Kuala Lumpur.

By drawing upon journals, newspaper articles, official records and personal letters, Amok in the Jungle brings the voices of Kuala Lumpur's earliest pioneers back to life to tell the dramatic tale of how Malaysia's capital was born.
