James Reeb Unitarian Universalist Congregation

Our Unitarian Universalist congregation centers LOVE on Madison’s East side. We welcome people who share our values of Justice, Equity, Transformation, Pluralism, Interdependence and Generosity. Unitarian Universalism is a covenantal faith, not a creedal one: we build supportive community with those who honor our covenants, the promises we make to one another, rather than a set of required beliefs. Our theology is a living tradition, evolving from its Universalist and Unitarian roots. We are brave, curious, and compassionate thinkers and doers, diverse in faith, ethnicity, and spirituality, but united in our desire to make a difference. We’re named for Rev. James Reeb, a UU civil rights martyr murdered in Selma in 1965, two days after he arrived. His death shocked the nation and spurred the Voting Rights Act. Dr. King, invited to Washington to support the Act, instead delivered Reeb’s eulogy.
