Hen in the Foxhouse

Hen in the Foxhouse is the recording project of Elena Sophia Krell. Based in the Hudson Valley, NY, Elena is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and engineer. Hen in the Foxhouse takes inspiration from such wide-ranging themes as social justice, indigenous cosmologies, emotional intelligence, and the absurd.

Musically, the sound is inspired by classical Western musical, Latin American pop, bolero, and folk music, European street music, gypsy jazz, bebop, old country, as well as current indie pop artists like Jenny Lewis, Carla Morrison, Death Cab for Cutie, Beck, Natalia LaFourcade, and The Magnetic Fields.

Elena was born in Germany and raised in Europe and Latin America until 9 years old. The album art is created by Grammy award winner, Brian Grunert, for White Bicycle (Buffalo, NY). Foxhouse has been featured in multiple TV/Film sync licenses and her record As Eli was called “unquestionably one of the summer’s brightest gems,” by Folk Radio UK.
