Frank van Tubergen

Welcome! I'm a professor of sociology, and on this channel, you'll find the videos that I created for my Introduction to Sociology course (SOC101).

For the intro course, I wrote a new textbook ('Introduction to Sociology', Routledge 2020), to provide sociology instructors with teaching materials that are based on up to date, rigorous sociological research. In the book I introduce a useful set of analytical principles and tools which helps students to think like a sociologist - such as how to derive a hypothesis, how to use micro-macro frameworks, and how to formulate interesting sociological questions. I relate sociological theories, findings and tools to contemporary societal problems, so that students see how they can apply sociological knowledge.

The main aim of my course and textbook is to equip the next generation of students with the knowledge and tools needed to analyze any sociological topic and any contemporary social problem - even those with which one is yet unfamiliar.
