FlU Center for Women's and Gender Studies

Established in 1982, The Center for Women’s and Gender Studies (CWGS) at Florida International University promotes scholarly inquiry related to women and gender. Students gain tools for analyzing the construction of gender, the relationship between gender and power, and the intersection of gender with sexuality, nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, class, age and ability. We have led the way for efforts supporting the advancement of women, diversity, equity, and inclusion at FIU and in the South Florida community. Through interdisciplinary curricula, research, and internship opportunities with community partners, CWGS provides students with the analytical skills, theoretical frameworks, and experiential opportunities necessary to secure postgraduate academic and professional opportunities that will allow them to address and dismantle the intractable social inequities of our time.
