Beyond the Surface with Dr. Danny Liu

Why do we do what we do? I'm a Chinese American therapist and clinical psychologist unpacking the subconscious patterns shaping Asian and Asian American lives around dating, relationships, family, career, and identity.
I grew up in a Chinese immigrant household. My parents ran a restaurant, worked long hours, and carried unprocessed trauma. I learned early to not speak up for my own needs, and manage everyone's emotions.
In my twenties I struggled with anxiety and overthinking. Then started my healing journey.
This channel is for Asian and Asian Americans wanting to understand the patterns they never chose. People pleasing, perfectionism, hyper-independence, procrastination, guilt around rest, chronic indecision. These patterns made sense growing up but shape everything in adulthood: how we date, how we work, how we deal with family, whether we feel free to be ourselves.
