Ambrose the Least & The Dog Pharmacy

Initially conceived as a way to explore the Psalms with unconventional musical arrangements, the band expanded its aspirations in 2026 with their fifth album, OUT OF DRY GROUND. This collection of songs is a half-hour meditation on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, using both Old and New Testament texts.

The Scriptures frequently use sheep and shepherds to portray the relationship between God and human beings, but we live in an age when sheep are rarely seen roaming the streets. In our videos, we like to reframe this sheep/shepherd relationship into a depiction of a dog/handler relationship. Because it's easier to find dogs. And we sometimes throw some birds in there for good measure.

The band's name is a tribute to both Ambrose of Milan and Ambrose of Optina, as well as the idea of the Church as a dispenser of the medicine we need, namely the sacraments.

St. Guinefort, pray for us!
