This centre is one of the 25 units of National Council of Science Museums, functioning under the purview of MoC, GOI. It was opened on 6th Jan. 1984 & is the first Science centre opened in South India. Main objective of the centre is to popularise Science and technology to the students in particular and general public at large, through the interactive exhibits displayed in the Galleries of the centre and educational extensional activities. I Read I forget, I see – I remember, I do – I understand … is the motto of the Dist. Science Centre, Gulbarga. At present centre has Four Galleries, viz., Fun Science, Electronics and Popular Science , Mathematics. Other special attractions of the centre are Digital planetarium , 3D Theatre, and Prehistoric Animal Park, Science Park , Mirror maze corner , Telescopes for observing the night sky & mobile science exhibition bus to reach rural mass.
