Cie Uzumaki / Valentine Nagata-Ramos

Uzumaki Company was created in 2011 to structure the dance-performance projects of, choreographer Valentine Nagata-Ramos. Uzumaki translates from the Japanese a vortex, whirlwind or tornado.The choice Uzumaki as our name points the spiraling movement of air into the human body, where it becomes breath and then energy. Uzumaki is an image of the essence of Breakdance : energy exploding within the compact space that is body and space.
Though Breakdance is its creative foundation, Uzumaki Company choreographies and performances are distincts in their original and spontaneous mixing of styles and genres. Uzumaki Company prides itself especially on using extreme to extreme : extreme traditionnel with extremely modern, very old and very new, extremely masculine with extremely feminine, very far West and extreme Orient… A barking laugh and a deep sob, very fast with too slow… Without distance, we believe, the center escapes us.
