CEPS - Centre for Ethics, Politics and Society

The Centre for Ethics, Politics and Society is the only research centre in Portugal exclusively dedicated to Political Philosophy and Ethics. It brings together PhD, postdoctoral, and associated researchers working in these fields.
Research in political philosophy focuses on political liberalism and human rights; distributive justice, basic income, and property-owning democracy; theories of democracy and public interest; and populism, representation, and political rhetoric. Research in ethics includes applied ethics, nudge theory, behavioral economics, food studies, and the philosophy of technology and human enhancement.
Recent projects address AI ethics, war ethics, immigration ethics, workplace democracy, neo-republicanism, social exclusion, and political epistemology. The Centre publishes the peer-reviewed open-access journal Ethics, Politics & Society and organizes international conferences, summer schools, and research seminars.
