Centre for Culture and Disability Studies

Founded in 2009, at Liverpool Hope University, the Centre for Culture and Disability Studies (CCDS) enables and endorses interdisciplinary research activities among an extended community of disabled and non-disabled academics. We cross the lines that usually define the social sciences, education, and the humanities to engage critically yet productively with multiple forms of representation in its broadest sense, our aim being to improve not only the accommodation but also the appreciation of disabled people as integral members of society.

The interdisciplinary projects include our Disability Studies MA, the Journal of Literary and Cultural Disability Studies (LUP), Autocritical Disability Studies (Routledge), Literary Disability Studies (Palgrave Macmillan/Springer), Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Disability Studies (OUP), and A Cultural History of Disability (Bloomsbury).
