Carlo Maria Nartoni

Pianist · Composer · Improviser
Exploring the unknown through improvisation.
Solo piano · Prepared piano · Improvised music · Live performances

Hi! I'm Carlo Maria Nartoni. When I start playing, I rarely know where a piece is going. That's part of the point.

I think of improvisation as the “poetry of the moment”: listening, responding and creating in real time. My music moves between solo and prepared piano, composition and free improvisation.

I've worked with Kenny Wheeler, Lennart Åberg and Franco Ambrosetti, and performed across Europe at Sunside Paris, B-Flat Berlin, Nardis Jazz Istanbul, Clusone Jazz Festival and Piano di Primo.

My albums as a leader include Syria, Ellittica and Beyond Borders. Ellittica received five stars from All About Jazz and was selected among the year's best albums by The New York City Jazz Record.

Current projects include Flows from Stillness with Ferdinando Romano, Canto, and new recordings with Ralph Alessi.
