But I’m A Cheerleader: The Musical, based on the Lionsgate cult film, is the story of Megan, an all-American high school cheerleader who thinks she has the perfect life. That is, until she discovers her family and friends all think she’s a lesbian and send her away to ‘True Directions,’ a rehabilitation camp to “set her straight.” It is at this camp, under the strict tutelage of headmistress Mary Brown that Megan meets Graham, a sexy tomboy who shows her exactly what her ‘true direction’ is. 
While Cheerleader is at heart a comedy and coming of age story, it shines a light on conversion therapy, a real thing, that is still legal in the UK and 30 States today.
