The Deep Further Fact

The Deep Further Fact podcast explores topics in philosophy and economics, particularly where they overlap. The phrase “the deep further fact” is a phrase in Part 3 of Derek Parfit’s 1984 masterpiece “Reasons and Persons,” indicating the most common (but false) view of personal identity, and is a recurring theme here. It is basically a claim about the existence of an enduring essence – something like a soul – a claim rejected here. The ramifications of this rejection run through just about anything of importance one can think of.
