Billion Dollar Painting

The Billion Dollar Painting began when I had a single thought: During my lifetime, I’m sure a painting is going to sell for one billion dollars.

But what was that painting going to be?

Each week The Billion Dollar Painting explores the likely (and not so likely) candidates for that first work of art to reach one billion dollars. It’s written with an eye to art history and the stories behind these paintings, but also to the dynamics of the contemporary art market.
