Bhutan Animal Rescue & Care (BARC) — rescuing dogs, cats, and monkeys in the Land of Gross National Happiness.
BARC is a Bhutanese NGO working toward a country where animals are treated with respect, kindness, and compassion, and where humans and animals coexist as the norm — not the exception. Our work directly supports Bhutan's vision of Gross National Happiness by extending it to every living being.

Founded in 2013 by former French architect Marianne Guillet, her Dutch partner Hendrik Visser, and Bhutanese dog lover and travel expert Kinlay Gyaltshen, BARC grew out of rescue work the founders began in 1997. We are registered under Bhutan's Civil Society Organizations Act.

Our sanctuary in Yusipang, 12 km outside Thimphu, is home to roughly 200 dogs, 15 cats, and 24 monkeys — each with a story.
