Before They Were

Before They Were is a channel about where the animals alive today came from.

Whales used to walk. Birds used to have teeth. Horses were the size of cats.
Every film here follows one line of descent as far back as the evidence goes,
and stays with it long enough to do the job properly.

That now means full length documentaries. One subject, covered completely,
beginning to end, in a single sitting. No cliffhangers, no multi part series
and no padding.

Where the science is genuinely unsettled, the film says so instead of picking
whichever version sounds better. Palaeontology argues about a great deal, and
the arguing is usually the most interesting part.

Visuals are reconstructions. The science is not.
