Artist of the North - Virginie Baude

Oil painter and pilot creating the art of the North — wildlife, bush planes, sled dogs, wilderness, and the life at the edge of it.

Born and raised in the south of France, I came to North America through wildlife biology, but Alaska changed everything. It’s where I discovered painting, fell in love with the wilderness, and where my life as an artist truly began.

Over the last fourteen years, I built a professional art career exhibiting through galleries and shows across the American West.

Now, twenty years after Alaska first changed my life, I’m finding my way back.

This channel follows that return — from camp life and sketchbooks to finished oil paintings — as I build a body of work rooted in atmosphere, solitude, weather, animal presence, aviation, and the human life at the edge of wilderness.

The artist and the pilot are the same person.

It’s about painting the North and living inside the world I want to paint.
