Argyll Wildlife

Knapdale is the site of the first reintroduction of beavers to the wild in the UK. In May 2009, the Scottish Beaver Trial saw beavers return to their natural habitat here for the first time in over 400 years.

The Argyll Beaver Centre is run by Argyll Wildlife (an independent Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation founded in 2016), and based in an off-grid farmhouse in the heart of Knapdale Forest. We are a charitable social enterprise founded to educate and inspire people about the ecological significance and rich biodiversity of this unique part of Scotland.

Through public engagement at our sustainable visitor centre, a year-round programme of guided walks, events and education session with schools and community groups of all ages, we aim to promote the conservation and enjoyment of our local wildlife and the habitats in which it can be found.
