Institute of Ancient Near Eastern Studies at Leipzig University

The field of Ancient Near Eastern Studies (also known as Assyriology or Cuneiform Studies) is dedicated to researching and teaching the history, languages and cultures of ancient Mesopotamia and its neighboring areas from the 4th to the end of the 1st millennium BCE. The discipline has been represented at the University of Leipzig since 1874.
