When There Were Birds

Bird declines are real, hence the name of this channel, but many of the causes are within our control. If we’ve been contributing to the problem, that means we can also be the solution.

This channel is about more than birds. It’s about hope — beginning by believing that people want to do good and that small, informed choices can make a real difference. 

I’m Adrienne Leppold, Ph.D., an ornithologist (bird biologist) with over 25 years of experience in research, management, and conservation. After years of seeing the disconnect between science, awareness, and action at the local level, I chose to step away from my career and take a leap of faith to help bridge that gap. 

I try to live by being the change I wish to see in the world. My hope is that what I share here helps people better understand the natural world, our place in it, and feel empowered and inspired to do the same. To “be the change”.
