Waterroots - Global Storytelling

Waterroots is an international youth-led project that uses storytelling to fight water insecurity. With over 40 members across 20 countries, we partner with local leaders to inspire grassroots change. Waterroots began as a climate storytelling project with a simple question: how does one’s background influence their climate stress? Focusing on water insecurity, we began surveying and interviewing communities to see how their sociological influences changed their perspectives of water. We learned of the impacts of military testing in Guam on water safety and of the recent droughts in Peruvian farmlands. We learned of pollution in the river Ganges and waterborne diseases in Nigeria. As the list of water challenges piled up around me, hopeful youth sought change. We use storytelling to empower youth, share marginalized voices, and find unity against climate change.
