Virginia Journal of International Law (VJIL)

The Virginia Journal of International Law (VJIL) was founded in 1960 and is located at the University of Virginia School of Law. VJIL has received judicial recognition both domestically and internationally: VJIL has been cited twelve times by the International Court of Justice, ten times by the U.S. Supreme Court—including in famous cases such as Sosa v. Alvarez-Machain, Kiobel v. Royal Dutch Petroleum Co., and Jesner v. Arab Bank, PLC—and eight times by state supreme courts. VJIL has featured contributions from authors across thirty-seven countries and territories, notably including authors like former U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren, President of the International Court of Justice Yuji Iwasawa, U.K. Supreme Court Justice David Lloyd Jones, and former Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit Patricia M. Wald.

We publish three times annually, and our issues contain Articles, Notes, and Essays. We also host an annual symposium.
