Thomas Mutch

Kiwi independent journalist covering crime, conflict and culture. Live and work mainly in beautiful, brave Kyiv, Ukraine.

I've reported on the Russian invasion for more than four years, and have covered the war from Kherson, Kharkiv, Bakhmut and more. I've also covered the Israel-Hamas war, including from inside the Gaza Strip, and have been on both sides of the war in Lebanon.

For my human rights exposes I've been banned from Russia- but I went there anyway with Ukrainian troops in Kursk.
I've previously reported for The Times, The Daily Beast, and am a freelance foreign correspondent for the New Zealand Herald. I'm a regular guest on the Telegraph's Ukraine: The Latest podcast.
