The Skitch Family Archive

The Skitch Family Archive — the memoirs of Robert Francis Skitch (1934–2026), read aloud. Full archive: https://history.skitch.me

Bob Skitch was born in the Collie coalfields of Western Australia in 1934, served in the Royal Australian Navy, then spent twenty-six years in the Royal Australian Survey Corps — including 1965–66 in Vietnam with 1st Topographical Survey Troop at Nui Dat — retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel before a decade in the public service in Brisbane.

Between 1999 and 2018 he wrote close to a million words from memory. His son Christopher digitised, edited and published them at history.skitch.me. This channel carries the audio: chapter-by-chapter narration of the memoirs, alongside family recordings and films.

For anyone with an interest in twentieth-century Australian life, the Army, the Survey Corps, or Vietnam.
