The Relevance Trap

The Relevance Trap explores Professional Relevance, the hidden forces that shape relevance, influence and opportunity across a professional career.

I’m Venkatachalam Viswanathan, founder of The Relevance Trap and author of The Relevance Trap: Why Reliable People Get Stuck at Work.

Here, I explore why capable professionals can continue doing good work yet find their careers slowing down; how the value of experience changes over time; why reliability, expertise and hard work do not always translate into greater influence or opportunity; and what professionals can do to remain relevant as their careers and organisations evolve.

The work draws on more than three decades of observing careers, and organisations.

The Relevance Trap is not about working harder. It is about understanding what has changed and making better decisions about what comes next.
