Centre for Arab Unity Studies

Since the early 20th century, following World War I, the Arab region saw the rise of nationalist cultural and intellectual movements seeking a renaissance based on shared history, identity, language, and common interests. These movements aimed to overcome stagnation, backwardness, and foreign dependency. Dramatic regional events heightened the sense among Arab peoples and elites of the need for unity to achieve independence, address challenges, and restore lost rights. In the 1970s, a group of Arab intellectuals proposed establishing a center for research focused on Arab unity. The center would deepen awareness and knowledge of the historical, political, social, and economic challenges facing the Arab world, both internal and external, and hinder its progress.
