Ferdinand Hauptner (* May 12, 1782 as Ferdinand Valentin Hauptner in Neuruppin; † June 7, 1859 in Berlin ) was a German chef. 

Hauptner was court chef to His Royal Highness Prince Albrecht of Prussia [ @Albrechtvonpreussen ] and founder of the first institute for teaching the art of cooking to ladies of higher rank in Berlin. 
His two-month cooking courses took place three times a week in the evenings from 5 to 8 p.m.
At the request of his female students, he wrote a cookbook that was to serve as a guide "for further domestic help in cooking", as he emphasized in the preface to the first edition of 1838. His cookbook was based on his thirty years of practical experience as a chef. 
His cookbook was so well received that it was repeatedly sold out after a short time and therefore had to be reprinted several times with minor changes and spelling corrections.
