THE D.E.P with Ongama Mtimka

The D.E.P with Ongama Mtimka seeks to establish pathways to create inclusive economies in Africa through interviews with leading business, government, and civil society leaders. We discuss various issues, ranging from high-impact development projects and investments to questions about distributive justice and new ways of thinking about development, economics, and politics in the continent. The key focus in my approach is to go beyond grand narratives that have come to be taken for granted. If race remains an issue, the question is to what extent and in which ways when cause and effect are analysed? If global neoliberalism is an issue, the question is the extent to which this manifests in particular sectors. If countries are experiencing increases in domestic and transnational organised crime the question is whether the mainstream economy does not in fact operate in mafia-type patterns and what the enabling conditions are that explain the rise and fall of phenomena. It’s a deep dive!
