SWITCH COAL profitably to renewable energy  - Country-by-Country billions of profits 
Switch coal is the last chance to reach the 1.5°C pathway 
The pressure is on to close this emissions gap by 2030. However, it is difficult to phase  out oil and gas in time because their usage is widely decentralized, for example by 1 billion cars. Phasing out coal is far more feasible with globally only about 2,500 coal plants sites. 
90 percent of the world’s coal plants can be switched to renewable energy with profits. This is the result of the Switch Coal study. For the first time, each individual coal plant was analyzed for its local wind and solar potential using the World Bank`s global wind and solar atlas. With these  natural resources in hand, the economics of these wind-solar-battery systems were assessed, using data from the International Energy Agency (IEA). The results are clear: 90% of the world’s coal plants  can be switched to wind-solar-battery systems with profits.
