Strokes to Spokes - Bicycling Around the World

I have been an avid bicyclist most of my life. In 1990 I did my first crossing of the United States to raise money for the Childrens Hospital I worked at in Rochester, NY. In 2003 I did another fundraising ride from Rochester to Disney World after which I moved to Honolulu and then to Siem Reap, Cambodia in 2015.

At the time I thought it was way too hot to hop back on a bicycle so my transportation was limited to tuktuks and my motorcycle. In 2016 I suffered a stroke and ended up being transported to Bangkok for treatment. I realized how important remaining healthy is if I wanted to hang around for a few more good years.

I bit the bullet, bought a bicycle and returned to the activity I always loved. Halfway through my first ten mile ride I realized this was going to change my life. I spent a long time planning and then in March of 2018 I headed out on my new fully decked out Surly Long Haul Trucker with the intention of riding around the world.
