Hypnosis is actually a very common state of being. Our minds in and out of hypnosis throughout the day. Whenever you "zone out" while driving your car, while watching television, playing a computer game, or go into a deep daydream while washing dishes, you are in a state very close to hypnosis. Meditation is also a state of self-hypnosis. And we all know how beneficial meditation is. 


A typical fear that many people have when considering hypnosis is that they can be made to say or do things that they would normally not do or say. This is NOT true. No one can make you say or do anything outside of your character or belief systems.
