Our Story

In response to the evolving needs of the Springfield neighborhood, the Presbytery of St. Augustine and the former Springfield Presbyterian Church established Urban Ministries of Springfield in 1992. Nearly a decade later, in 2001, the organization was renamed The Sanctuary on 8th Street after moving into the historic post office building. What began as a small program serving just a dozen children has since grown into a thriving community hub, now serving over 100 children through our after-school and summer camp programs.

To encourage and empower youth and families in need throughout Jacksonville by addressing their spiritual, physical, social, and intellectual well-being.

Our Vision
The Sanctuary on 8th Street strives to be a catalyst for positive change—expanding opportunities for children and families through education, social services, recreation, and the arts.
