SHiFT - Geothermal Project EU

The SHiFT project aims to unlock next-generation geothermal energy by demonstrating, for the first time worldwide, sustainable power generation from superhot geothermal (SHG) reservoirs (below 400 °C). While conventional geothermal taps shallow resources (2–3 km, 240–330 °C), SHiFT targets far deeper and hotter formations with much greater energy potential.
Building on results from the Iceland Deep Drilling Project and EU initiatives, SHiFT will integrate advanced drilling, well completion, flow testing, and surface power conversion to raise SHG technology readiness from TRL 5 to TRL 7 through a first-of-a-kind full-scale demonstration.
