Ruomu Tales

I'm Ruomu. In my own voice, I tell of the monsters in the Shan Hai Jing (Classic of Mountains and Seas), Chinese strange tales (zhiguai) and other old books.

Long ago, people turned the fears they couldn't explain into monsters, drew them, wrote them down and gave them names. Each episode takes one: the original classical Chinese text on screen, line by line, with the book and chapter it comes from, and how later retellings changed it. Narrated in Mandarin by a real human voice, not AI.

An old Chinese book says that once you know a monster's name, it can no longer harm you. Maybe that works for our own fears, too.
