RuhrBeat – The Forgotten Rap Story – streaming from November 1 on ARD Mediathek

The three-part documentary series “RuhrBeat – The Forgotten Rap Story” explores, for the first time, the full history of Ruhrpott hip-hop. Created in collaboration with more than 30 artists from the region, all three episodes will be available exclusively on ARD Mediathek and ardkultur.de starting November 1, 2025.

The rise of Ruhrpott rap has been marked by highs and lows – a chapter of German music history that has never been told in its entirety. Through three 35-minute episodes, “RuhrBeat” closes this gap, offering a comprehensive look at one of Germany’s most compelling music and subcultural movements.

Produced over two years, director and writer Gordon Kämmerer portrays a scene that once had the potential for nationwide success but never managed to assert itself permanently against metropolises such as Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, or Stuttgart.
