Plants Through History is where Florida gardening meets hidden history.

As I research plants I may want to grow in my Florida Zone 10a food forest, I share what I’m learning along the way. Each plant starts as a simple question—Should I grow this?—and turns into a deeper story about Florida, nature, and the people who shaped the land before us.

This channel explores the history behind edible, medicinal, native, and culturally important plants connected to Florida and beyond. From prehistoric plants and Indigenous knowledge to Spanish exploration, colonial trade, enslaved expertise, frontier botany, and modern conservation, these stories go far beyond the garden.

I’m learning in real time through old books, archives, artwork, historical accounts, and botanical research, then sharing what I find in a calm, visual, story-driven way.
