Plasminogen Deficiency Type 1 (PLGD-1)

Plasminogen Deficiency Type 1 (PLGD-1) is a rare, multi-system disorder where the body lacks functional plasminogen. This plasminogen deficiency makes it difficult to break down fibrin, which can lead to the accumulation of fibrin-rich wood-like growths in various organs throughout the body.

Many people with PLGD-1 experience ligneous conjunctivitis, or white growths inside the eyelids, often misdiagnosed as chronic conjunctivitis, or recurring pink eye. These mucous membrane lesions can also appear in the mouth (ligneous gingivitis), ears, nose, lungs, and other organs, sometimes causing pain or affecting organ function.

Our channel shares real stories from people living with PLGD-1, from symptoms to diagnosis, helping to raise awareness and understanding of this rare genetic condition.
