NorthStar of GIS

We believe in a racially-just world through a racially-just geography. We envision a world where communities benefit from public and private policies informed, designed, and automated by geographers, GIS professionals, and other geo-practitioners who equitably reflect the Black and Black African diaspora and who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to use antiracist and equitable geographic approaches. We promote racial justice and equity through geography and GIS technology, increase Black representation in geography and related fields, and ensure that geographic analyses account for intersecting systems of oppression like racism, sexism, and socioeconomic injustice.

We advocate for racial justice and equity in all geographic disciplines by addressing the entire spectrum of geo-fields. We recognize the impacts of geographic practices and technologies, which often lack Black representation and harm Black communities.
