Title: The Horizon’s Debt

After a decade of serving a Marine veteran returns to a homeland that no longer made sense, not because of politics or culture wars, but because he discovers America had quietly restructured itself as a huge, legalized pyramid scheme. His journey across three continents reveals that technology, and his survival depends on him becoming something ancient: a mountain man outside the algorithm.

THE HORIZON’S DEBT [A story about a journey]

Chapter One: The Long Way Home

Cole Ramirez pulled the mobile home off I-10 at the exit for Twenty-nine Palms, though he wasn’t stopping. Force of habit. Ten years in the Marines, and his body still expecting sand and incoming mortars.

A 1998 Fleetwood, double-wide, technically, though nobody who lived in one called it that.

That was the thing about the Marine Corps. You learned to make do with less than nothing.
