MachMallow

Hypnotic computational fluid dynamics, simulated from scratch on a Mac.

machmallow is where CFD meets oddly-satisfying. I built a 2D compressible fluid solver by hand - hybrid CPU/GPU, adaptive mesh refinement (AMR), running on Apple Silicon - and turn it into mesmerizing, loopable visuals.

Watch shock waves, von Kármán vortex streets, Kelvin–Helmholtz billows, Rayleigh–Taylor plumes, bow shocks and detonations come alive in the signature icefire look.

What you'll find here:
🌀 Shorts - perfect-loop fluid simulations, pure motion, zero filler
🔬 Explainers - the physics behind each phenomenon, in plain language
💻 Build-in-public - how the GPU solver works (Metal, fp32, AMR), coded from scratch

New simulations every week. Subscribe and watch fluids the way they really move.
