LiVHERe Sri Lanka

The Living with Violent Heritage exchange (LiVHERe) explores the relationship between, memory, heritage and conflict in the increasingly fraught setting of post-war Sri Lanka. LiVHERe documents state and grassroots heritage, memory and arts practices, prior to, during and following the Civil War of 1983 to 2009. It records the experiences of survivors, insurgents, peacebuilders, activists, critics and educators who have lived through and responded to Sri Lanka's violent heritage. Through interviews, and short films, it seeks to widen our understanding pf public history's capacity to function as a mechanism for truth and reconciliation in Sri Lanka (especially when deployed at a grassroots level) and its alternative role in deepening political and ethnic divides.
