Johanna Rose is widely regarded as one of the most promising viola da gamba players of her generation (El Español). Critics praise her playing as “wonderfully addictive” (Fonoforum) and “the best of 21st-century historical performance… visceral and pleasingly direct” (BBC Music Magazine).
Her acclaimed recordings include Histoires d’un Ange (Rubicon Classics, 2019) and 7 Movements, both nominated for the Opus Klassik Award, and her upcoming album Visions du Diable (2026) continues her exploration of French repertoire.
Rose performs internationally as a soloist and with Accademia del Piacere as well as other ensembles, she plays on a historic viola da gamba built in 1721 by Egidius Kloz.
