TAO Walks China

We walk through the countryside with our camera, recording stories of land, time, and people.

For decades, China’s cities have surged forward with rapid urbanization,
and the countryside has followed in step.
Amid waves of imitation and reconstruction,
traditional dwellings have fallen one by one.
The poetic rural landscapes shaped over thousands of years
have become increasingly hard to find.

The countryside was once a vessel of cultural roots,
yet it has been pushed aside.
Fortunately, deep within mountains and dense forests,
faint traces still remain.

Through these images, we make a modest record.
